THIS TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG. AND I DIDNT EVEN DO THE BACKGROUND I JS DREW IN CABINET OF CURIOSITIES INTO IT
you might think, ‘oh, why is naib here, in this game that probably not a lot of people know about?’ and here is why.
i really like naib aubedar.
i really like manifold garden.
both their coulers are primarily white (cabinet of curiosities i mean).
so i did what i wanted to, and scridibbled him in. didnt include some details cause they were really small and my digital brushes could not handle details on such a scale
and some i really could not bother with, such as his manta rays (too translucent, didnt work with background image well), seaweed on his lamp (too late to be added in, i feel), and his other eye (tbh its something that defines my artstyle now)
please this took my ass WAY too long (over 5 hours, most of it taken up by experimenting with the colours and shading) and yet his shadow aint even right bro.
also i found higher resolution pics for the background after i finished drawing it (im twEAKING OUT)
but its aight ig, im pretty proud of the way he blends in with the atmosphere of the game. i was aiming for that too, so thats nice
here is the linkie for the original image i drew over

I can’t be the only one who thinks that those weird surreal worlds like ENA, Manifold Garden, Viewfinder and Superliminal are kinda like, the modern-day equivalent of the Fae, right?
Strange, alien landscapes; arbitrary rules and mysterious internal logic; a general defiance of everyday laws of physics?
An additional point ENA is nostalgia: Just look at the aesthetics wiki for old-school internet cottagecore: nostalgia for the wild and unsanitized internet/forest, an era where people in the internet forest could just do shit without corporations cutting down every tree and blocking every swear word online
hell, the old internet kinda is like a wild, untamed forest, old web design being as hard to navigate as the untouched woods
If this were a video essay I’d call it something like “The Internet is a dying Fairy Forest” or something like that

Manifold Garden is another one I only lasted an hour on. I was pretty hopeful about it from what I'd seen and heard of it, and I don't dislike it or anything, but I didn't really click with it. I like the idea and how it looks and messing around with gravity and the way stuff loops around and all that, but I didn't feel like I was getting a ton out of actually playing it. It's kind of like what happened with me and Antichamber however many years ago. Like sure it's neat that you messed with space in the way you did, but I already saw games do that in the 90s, and that's not enough to win me over now if I'm not vibing with the rest of what's there.
So instead I finally finished all the songs in Theatrhythm Final Bar Line because the DLC finally went on sale. I absolutely cannot be bothered to do it on the highest difficulty or get all the achievements because it's definitely not my favorite style of rhythm game, but I liked it enough to get at least an S on everything and SSS on like 2/3 of them. I still wish they used one of the other art styles they've had over the past decade for cute little versions of characters though. Stuff like Bravely Default and World of Final Fantasy looks so much better to me than this does, but it probably takes slightly more work to do than relatively low detail sprites and 2D puppet animation, and that would mean they'd actually have to pay people to do that, and that's apparently illegal in the game industry these days.
Burly Men at Sea also didn't click with me. It's probably fine? Maybe? Feels kinda like garbage to play on the Switch though with how slow and kind of awkward it is to do everything. It definitely gives the impression it was never meant to be played with a controller. Oh well.
Bio Prototype was much more compelling once I got to the end of my first run and everything started to click though, and now I understand why someone was suggesting it as one of the more interesting descendants of Vampire Survivors. Instead of just having a fixed set of weapons/passives that you choose a subset of you instead get to string chains of things together to build your own abilities in kind of a programmatic way. It lets you get really silly with it from what I've seen so far, and I'm not even very far in it yet.
And then finally there's Blackberry Honey, which is cute and gay. Much like other ebi-hime stuff I don't think it'll make that much of a lasting impression on me, but it's fun and mostly pretty fluffy while it lasts, and sometimes that's exactly what I'm looking for. I do have one issue with it though. The character art is mostly good, and I like the character designs for the most part. But. The main character's boobs are so detached from reality I can't take them seriously. Like I've had friends and dated people with boobs that big (although typically not on people that small/skinny), and they do not work like that. They don't even look like they're correctly attached to her body. What's wrong with your boobs?
